There are various options available for after school care, including one based at school (Yikes). Please call into the office for more information.
Bikes / Scooters / Skateboards / Wheels
Children are asked to leave bicycles, scooters and skateboards in the bike cage. The bike cage is locked at 9am and re-opened at 3pm. Children are encouraged to bring their own chains and locks for added security. Also, for safety, the school has a “Walk your Wheels" policy within the school grounds.
Please name them. It's a tremendous help to teachers and children if they are. Velcro and buckle shoes are easier than laces for young children. Layered clothes are best in our Nelson climate as it can get quite hot in the middle of the day.

Children are encouraged to bring lunches to school. Lunches may also be bought from the shops in Nile/Alton streets, but parents/caregivers are asked to make their own arrangements for these. The school provides milk each day under the Fonterra Milk for Schools programme.

Students have the opportunity to purchase paperback books each term. Pamphlets detailing the books available are sent home with each student. If you wish to purchase items, order forms and cheques (made out to Nelson Central School) can be placed in the box at the office.
School Bags and Lunches
School bags need to be big enough for swimming togs, home pack, clothing and a lunch box. If children help to pack their bags they learn some independence and also know what is in it.
A named lunch box and plastic water bottle are a great idea. The Kowhai Syndicate children eat separately from the rest of the school in a supervised area. Children are encouraged to take uneaten lunches home.
